Puccini’s Girl of the Golden West is not a well known Opera. Set in the 1800s Californian Gold Rushes Minnie, the bar-keeper, falls for Johnson who, unbeknownst to her happens to be the outlaw Rammarez.
Last night my Music Theatre class went to see this delightful production put on by the State Theatre company. For free. Of course, having not paid a fee I would have enjoyed this even if it was mediocre, but it wasn’t. The set was an amazing feat of technical design, clever and versatile.

I’m truly lucky to have seen this.
